Our Mantra is: Always home baked, fresh, seasonal, fairly traded, local and organic if possible.
Sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We try to consider the financial, environmental and social impact of every decision we make. Wherever possible, we source locally, use organic produce, and fairly traded products. We try and visit as many suppliers as we can to better understand where food has come from an how to get the best out of it. Our menu changes with what’s in season, because we believe that fresh tastes best.
Where we can’t go and visit the suppliers directly, we source from middlemen who are passionate about the traceability and sourcing of their product.
With some commodities is not always possible to ensure traceability of the product, so we utilise Fair Trade Certification to give peace of mind that we are sourcing ethically. The Fair Trade products that we use are sugar, golden syrup, vanilla extract and cocoa powder.
Our coffee is not Fair Trade certified but it is fairly traded. We source speciality coffee from roasters in Scotland and the UK that are able to trace the supply of their coffee to a single region or farm. These are quality coffees that demand premium prices. We buy in bulk to reduce packaging, and reuse or recycle everything possible. Currently all of our team live within a 3 mile radius of the cafe. They are all passionate and knowledgeable about what you are eating and drinking so please ask about the food.
Our food waste, cardboard and paper are “fed” to our Hot Composter, the end product of which in turn, will feed the garden. The house and cafe electricity supply is 100% renewable energy supplied by Ecotricity.
